Description:

From Austin ArtWorks Festival Website:

What is this "ArtWorks Festival?"

The Austin ArtWorks Festival is a free two-day event in Austin, Minnesota held annually each August. Located in an historic power plant in the heart of the city, the festival was launched in 2012 as a celebration of local artists and those with a tie to our area; this summer, however, the festival will begin showcasing regionally and nationally known artists as well.

The ArtWorks Festival is designed to offer our community as well as those who visit from across the country a broad selection of experiences in the arts--visual, performing, literary, culinary, and more--in one celebratory weekend. We also strive to make our festival interactive by including family activities and demonstrations (e.g. glassblowing, wheel throwing, & metalwork). In three years the festival has become a staple of summer entertainment in the area, receiving rave reviews by local publications and visitors.

When's it going down?

The 2016 ArtWorks Festival will run August 27 & 28, although we'll probably be celebrating in one way or another all week long. Because we can't help it.
And where?

While the 2016 Festival location is still TBA, the Festival has descended on the Historic Downtown Power Plant in Austin, Minnesota (i.e. the other Austin) for the last four years.

Does it cost anything?

Nope! The only ticketed event of the Festival is our Saturday Night Concert, although you might want to bring some cash money in case you want to grab a couple super neat prints, a piece of original artwork, books, or food. (It's a safe bet you'll find something to catch your fancy. Just saying.)

What kinds of art can I expect?

All kinds! In the past our visual artists have showcased work in ceramics, drawing, fiber, glass, jewelry, metalwork, mixed media, painting, paper, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and textiles. You can expect all artwork to be original, hand-crafted, and produced by or under the direction/supervision of the artist. Alumni include Eric Anfinson, Joan Finnegan, Bill Stamats, Zane York, and Joseph Sand.

Alumni of our outdoor music stage include Charlie Parr, the Sena Ehrhardt Band, and "Acoustic Ninja" Trace Bundy. Expect everything from blues to folk to rock.

Past authors include Brad Zellar, Amanda Hocking, Grant Blackwood, and PS Duffy, and have published and collaborated on everything from fake newspapers to bestselling thrillers.
